look at my hat |

it all started with this hat, made of leaves and bamboo sticks. long back i saw this kind of hat hanging in drawing room of one of my friends at bareilly. don't know what fascinated me other than the craftsmanship but when told that tharus use to wear it while working in fields and my friend got it from a tharu man in gonda district, i became very curious to know about tharus. tried to find books about them but couldn't find any that time.
Visited forests in gonda and baharaich district and found them in their habitat. after nine years of my association with them as a human being and subject of my study, i have hundreds of pictures about their culture, religion, life style and changes in their lives but still this one, first of my pictures, is my favourite. this was made in a village of bahraich district. the innocent face, glares in his eyes and honest behaviour is something i can never forget.
This was my first encounter with a member of tribe community. |
